Catalyst Throw Size Sample Quilt
The Catalyst Quilt Pattern is all about bold shapes and strong geometry—but fabric choice can completely change the final look. This throw size version, made with Riley Blake Confetti Cottons, leans into a brighter, more playful palette while still letting the striking design take center stage.
This throw quilt shows just how versatile the Catalyst design can be. With the right color palette, the same bold geometry takes on a completely different feel.
A Bright & Feminine Color Palette
For this version, I chose a fresh and slightly unexpected combination of colors:
Together, these create a palette that feels light, warm, and inviting. The mix of soft pink, golden tones, and cool blue gives the quilt a playful, slightly retro feel while still keeping that modern edge.
It’s a great reminder that solids don’t have to feel minimal, they can be full of personality too.

Letting the Design Do the Work
Just like the cover quilt, this version uses solids to really let the shapes of the Catalyst pattern shine.
With no busy prints to compete for attention, your eye goes straight to the bold geometry of the block. It’s simple, striking, and incredibly satisfying to sew.
And honestly, this is one of those patterns that’s hard to make just once.

Throw Size = Fast & Fun Finish
This is the throw size Catalyst Quilt, which means you get that oversized block look without a long, drawn-out sewing process.
The pattern comes together quickly, making it such a fun project—especially if you’re the kind of quilter who loves seeing progress fast.
It’s the kind of quilt that almost guarantees you’ll be pulling fabric for a second version before you’ve even finished the first.

Simple Quilting with Beautiful Texture
For this quilt, I kept the quilting simple and did it myself using a wavy stitch in lines, spaced a little less than an inch apart.
The thread is a soft light grey, which blends beautifully across all the colors without overpowering them.
This style of quilting adds just the right amount of texture while keeping the focus on the piecing. The gentle movement of the wavy lines softens the bold angles of the design and gives the whole quilt a relaxed, cozy feel.

Finishing Touches
The backing is a blue wavy wideback from Missouri Star, which complements the quilt top perfectly and ties in with the quilting design.
For the binding, I used Tea Rose from the quilt top, which adds a soft, warm frame around the quilt and pulls everything together beautifully.

Inspired by a Favorite
This version was inspired by the cover quilt of the Paradigm Quilt Pattern, which is another favorite for bold, modern, large-block designs.
I love taking a design I already enjoy and reimagining it with a new color palette, and this one turned out to be such a fun variation.

Why I Love This Version
What I love most about this quilt is how fun it is from start to finish.
The colors feel happy and inviting, the construction is quick and satisfying, and the end result is something that feels both modern and full of personality.
It’s a great example of how the Catalyst pattern can shift and adapt depending on your fabric choices, and why it’s such a good one to make again and again.
