I’m so sorry it has been a while since you’ve heard from me on here!
If you follow me on good ol’ Instagram AKA “quiltstagram” as I like to call it, then you know I’ve been very busy the past few months. If you don’t follow along there, now’s your chance to find & follow: @homemadeemilyjane
Here’s a Quick life recap:
- in November I bought a house
- in December I graduated with my MBA
- in March I got married
- we spent the first weekend of April moving into the new house
It has been a total whirlwind but I really can’t describe how wonderful it is to finally be settled!
Now I can devote all the hours I had been spending doing homework and planning the wedding into my favorite past time – QUILTING! Hold on tight, y’all because it’s about to get real quilty up in here.
Today I’m going to tell you about my favorite feet to use on my Husqvarna Sapphire machine, but if you scroll down to the very bottom of this post you can also find some wedding pics because it was a total dream and I really want to share it with all of you!
Alright let’s get to it: If you’ve been following along you know how much I LOVE my Sapphire 965Q. It makes sewing and quilting so easy, and really saves me time compared to my previous machine. I can do so much with it and I’ve really only barely scratched the surface of all the possibilities. Here are my favorite sewing feet:
- Quarter Inch Foot (every quilter’s necessity!)
1/4″ Piecing Foot
1/4″ Edge Stitching Foot
“Quilter’s ¼” Piecing foot P” from Husqvarna — This sewing foot came with my Husqvarna machine and is ideal for quilting. The little red line is the ¼ inch mark. When piecing together quilts, having a consistent ¼ seam is essential. 10/10 highly recommend.
If you’re new to quilting, I’d suggest looking into getting a ¼” edge stitching foot. The edged foot comes with a little guide bar on the edge to help steer the fabric for you! Makes piecing a breeze!!
- Zipper Foot
“Zipper Foot E” from Husqvarna — It’s perfectly shaped to allow your needle to get very close to the edge of what you’re sewing, whatever it may be!
When we first bought the new house, a sweet neighbor of my grandparents offered to GIVE me her patio furniture set, as she was about to move and didn’t need them anymore. I loved the set, but the cushions were about 15 years old, so I decided to reupholster them! The zipper foot on my Sapphire came in super handy for this endeavor! If you plan on putting in zippers or making piping – this is the foot for the job!
- Walking foot Dual feed foot / walking foot / even feed foot – whatever you want to call it, it’s my best friend. This is the perfect tool for quilting the layers of a quilt together, and comes in especially helpful when you want to sew on binding to get it through all those layers nice and even without anything shifting! For my Husqvarna machine, this foot was sold separately; the part is item #920219096 and you can check it out here.
I didn’t actually find out that the walking foot existed until about 4 years into my quilting journey, now I really don’t understand how I ever lived without it. I hope to make a separate blog post just about this foot to give it the attention it really deserves.
OK now it is your turn! Let me know in the comments what your favorite sewing foot is and WHY you love it so much! Bonus points if it’s not one I covered here.
Personally, I’ve been just itching to try the button hole foot but haven’t ventured into garment sewing in quite some time…
