My First Quilt

Flashback to the summer of 2013. I had just been accepted into the University of Florida and was looking forward to joining my older sister and the Gator Nation up in Gainesville, FL.

As I was coming up with ideas to decorate my dorm I saw an adorable orange and blue quilt photo on Pinterest. (Thanks Pinterest for constant inspiration and endless joy) I brought the photo to my super-talented grandma who helped me design and make a similar quilt. She taught me about fabric selection, hst shortcuts, and how to make e a perfect scant 1/4 inch seam. She also taught me how to always press to the dark side and square up the blocks perfectly. Just a few short weeks later and I was finished with my first quilt — and ready to make another.

The relationship that my grandmother and I built through quilting has inspired me to want to teach others. My mission here is to build relationships and community through craft, and to help bridge the gap between generations.

OK now its your turn! Tell me in the comments about your first quilt!!
