Modern HRT Quilt Pattern – The Luminary Quilt Cover Quilt

I’m so excited to introduce you to the cover version of my newest quilt pattern — Luminary! This bold and modern design radiates warmth and energy, making it an absolute joy to sew. In this post, I’m sharing all the juicy details about the exact quilt featured on the cover — from fabrics and techniques to the quilting style and final touches. You’ll also see plenty of photos to inspire your own version of the Luminary Quilt!

Let me tell you all about the quilt I made for the pattern cover!

Luminary Quilt Sizes

The Luminary Quilt Pattern includes instructions for three sizes:

  • Baby: 36″ x 48″
  • Throw: 60″ x 72″
  • Bed: 84″ x 96″

The one featured on the cover is the Throw size, which is perfect for snuggling, gifting, or adding a vibrant accent to your living space.

Fabric Selection for the Cover Quilt

For the cover quilt, I chose to go bold and bright using solids from the PBS Painter’s Palette collection. The color palette includes glowing shades of pinks, yellows, and oranges, and it truly makes the design pop! These solids really help showcase the strong geometry and movement in the Luminary layout.

The backing is a soft and subtle print: Cobblestone wide back by Connecting Threads in a light pink tone. It’s the perfect complement to the vivid quilt front — not distracting, just soft and sweet.

Batting & Quilting on this Luminary Quilt

Inside the quilt is Quilters Best Blend batting — a great choice for achieving a soft drape while still offering enough loft to show off the quilting.

For quilting, I used Mettler Silk Finish Cotton Thread in 50 wt, which glides beautifully and adds just the right finishing touch to the project.

Quilting Style: Clean & Simple

This quilt was quilted using simple horizontal channel quilting, with lines spaced about 1 inch apart. It’s a clean, modern look that enhances the structure of the quilt without overwhelming the color play.

Channel quilting is one of my favorite go-to techniques when I want something that’s easy to achieve at home and still creates a professional finish — especially when using a walking foot.

Luminary Design Inspiration

The name Luminary came from the way this design feels — bright, uplifting, and full of movement. I envisioned something that could truly “light up” a space, especially when paired with cheerful, high-contrast fabrics. The triangles come together into bright shining diamond shapes.

It’s the kind of pattern that gives you freedom to play with color and layout, while still maintaining a modern, eye-catching structure.
