Model Farm Quilt Pattern Review

Do you know Brittany from @Loandbeholdstitchery? If not, you need to start following her! She designs and writes incredible patterns. Brittany’s grandma Lois was a quilter too and passed down her enthusiasm for this great art. I love this about Brittany/Lois because, I too, come from a quiltin’ grandma!

A few months ago Brittany came up with this awesome way to honor grandma Lois by starting to release patterns that are inspired by her own work: the Lois Quilt Collection. The first pattern to release as part of the collection was the First Gift Quilt, which I loved so much that I made TWO! (Click here to see them!) And now the second pattern inspired by grandma Lois is Model Farm! You can read Brittany’s story behind the quilt design here!

As a pattern tester for Brittany, I decided to make the pillow size Model Farm but I am thrilled to share with you that this pattern has a handful of different size options and is beginner friendly too!

Sometimes I forget how fun it is to make small quilts. They are great because you can finish them in an afternoon and you can use scraps on them too! I pulled random scraps form my stash for this one but here are the fabrics I was able to find online:

Of course I couldn’t make this pillow size quilt without some bold hand quilting! For me, hand quilting is just so therapeutic. I find it very calming and I LOVE how it turns out.

I tried something kind of fun with this, where I made the stitches in the middle of the design just a smidge shorter than the ones on the outskirts of the design. What do you think? Did you even notice? Is it as cool as I think it is?

If you want to learn how to hand quilt BIG BOLD STITCHES, here are a few blog posts to help you get started:

While the pattern says this size is for a pillow, I decided to turn it into a small wall hanging instead, and if you’re liking that idea, check out this Pillow/Wall Hanging Duo Tutorial so you can make it into a pillow in it at some point down the road too!

I hope my own mini Model Farm Quilt inspires you to make one of your own! Click here to buy the Model Farm Quilt Pattern!
