Bold Blue Catalyst Quilt with Dreamy Diamond Quilting
There’s something about a bold blue quilt that just never gets old. This cover version of the Catalyst Quilt Pattern is exactly that.
With a rich mix of teals and deep blues paired with the dreamiest quilting design, this quilt perfectly captures everything I love about this pattern: strong geometry, modern contrast, and texture that completely transforms the finished piece.

A Bold Blue & Teal Color Palette
For this version, I used Colorwork Solids by Northcott, choosing a palette that leans into cool, saturated tones:
- Colorworks Solids On Thin Ice
- Colorworks Solids Blue Spruce
- Colorworks Solids Peacock
- Colorworks Solids Air Force
These colors work together to create depth and movement while still feeling cohesive. The contrast between the lighter and darker shades really allows the geometric design of the Catalyst block to shine.
It’s bold without being overwhelming, and still feels calm and inviting at the same time.

Throw Size for Maximum Impact
This quilt is the throw size, which I think is the perfect scale for the Catalyst design.
Because the pattern is built around a single large block, the throw size really lets that bold geometry take center stage. It’s large enough to make a statement, but still comes together quickly compared to more repetitive quilt patterns.

The Quilting That Steals the Show
If there’s one thing that truly makes this quilt special, it’s the quilting.
This quilt was beautifully quilted by Megan at Northern Designs Minnesota using the Diamond Loops pantograph by Longarm League, stitched in a soft light blue thread that blends seamlessly into the background.
And honestly it’s hard to even put into words how much this quilting elevates the entire piece.

The angled, flowing design of the pantograph plays so well with the sharp geometry of the Catalyst pattern. The combination creates this incredible balance between structure and softness.
The result is bold, graphic shapes from the piecing, movement and flow from the quilting, and texture that you can’t stop running your hands over
It’s one of those quilts that looks amazing in photos but is even better in person.

Finishing Details
For the backing, I chose Mon Cheri Triangles Lake from Riley Blake Designs, which adds a subtle, beautiful complement to the quilt top.
The binding is Air Force from the Colorwork Solids collection, tying everything together with a clean, polished edge that frames the quilt perfectly.

Why I Love This Version
What stands out most to me about this quilt is how the quilting interacts with the design.
The Catalyst pattern already has strong angles and bold shapes, but when you layer in a pantograph like Diamond Loops, something really special happens. The texture softens the look just enough, making the quilt feel both striking and cozy.
It’s bold, modern, and graphic… but still incredibly inviting.
And that combination is exactly what I’m always chasing in a quilt.
