Baby Size Linear Quilt – A Modern Strip Pieced Quilt Pattern
I recently finished a baby-size version of my newest quilt pattern — the Linear Quilt Pattern — and I’m so excited to share all the details with you! This quilt is bold, modern, and comes together more quickly than you might expect thanks to simple strip piecing techniques. The Linear Quilt is a block-based design, which means it’s approachable and fun for quilters of all experience levels.
This version of the Linear Quilt was made in the baby size, which is one of the size options included in the pattern. Whether you’re sewing for a new baby in the family or just want a quick, satisfying make, this size is the perfect way to test out this graphic, modern pattern.
You can find this peachy pink and green baby quilt in my shop available now.

Modern Strip Pieced Quilt Pattern
The Linear Quilt Pattern is designed to look clean and modern, with bold geometric movement throughout the quilt top. It may look complex, but it’s surprisingly beginner-friendly thanks to the use of strip piecing. If you’re looking for a quilt that gives maximum visual impact with efficient construction, Linear is a great choice.
The quilt is assembled in blocks, which not only makes it more manageable to piece, but also gives you the flexibility to mix and match fabrics or layouts if you want to make it your own.
Baby quilts are perfect for practicing with the AccuQuilt Go. In my AccuQuilt Go review, I share tips for using this fabric cutting machine for cutting lots of strips, which can be super helpful while making a Linear Quilt.
Strip Piecing Makes it Easy: A Full Tutorial
One of the things I love about the Linear Quilt Pattern is how well it works with strip piecing — it makes the whole process quicker and more accurate!
If you’re new to strip piecing or want a refresher, check out my Strip Piecing Tutorial here. It walks you through everything: cutting, sewing, pressing, and sub-cutting your strips. You could also watch this video for a visual demonstration of the strip piecing technique:
For this baby quilt, I used strip piecing to sew long fabric strips together before cutting them into block units — saving time and keeping everything super consistent. It’s a great technique, especially for beginner quilters working with modern, block-based patterns like this one!

Riley Blake Solids Color Palette
For this version, I chose Riley Blake Designs solids in the following colors:
This soft and sunny palette feels perfectly playful for a baby quilt while still keeping that modern, clean aesthetic I love. The colors pop beautifully against each other and really help show off the graphic lines of the quilt pattern.

Straight Line Quilting Details
To finish this baby quilt, I opted for straight-line quilting to echo the geometric nature of the pattern. I used Mettler Silk Finish Cotton 40 wt thread, which added a beautiful texture without distracting from the design. Straight-line quilting is always a favorite of mine when I want something modern, crisp, and clean.
The batting is Nature’s Best 100% Cotton Batting from Missouri Star, which gives the quilt a lovely drape and softness — perfect for snuggling a new baby!

Backing and Finishing Touches
For the quilt backing, I found the cutest peach print fabric at Hobby Lobby, and I just couldn’t resist using it to tie in with the warm coral tones on the front. It’s the perfect complement and adds just the right touch of whimsy.
