The Top 5 Best Sewing Machine Features

Are you considering buying a new sewing machine? Maybe you’ve been having the itch to learn how to sew for a while now and you just want to dive in by getting your very first machine, or maybe you are gaining experience and are looking to upgrade! Whatever the case, I am here to help guide you towards finding the best machine for your needs!

As a sewist and a quilter, there are a few key things I looked for when sewing machine shopping, and even some features that I wasn’t particularly looking for but I turned out to love SO MUCH! so are you ready to find out the Top 5 Best Sewing Machine Features?!

You might already know this about me, but I am a total HUSQVARNA® VIKING® fan. My very first machine was a HUSQVARNA® VIKING® EMERALD that I got for my 16th birthday and I’ve been obsessed with this brand ever since. The machines are total workhorses and have tons of unique design features with the sewist in mind! I recently upgraded to the HUSQVARNA® VIKING® DESIGNER BRILLIANCE 80 machine and I am pleased to announce that this machine has all 5 of these amazing features and so. much. more.

  1. Automatic Needle Threader and Automatic Thread Cutter

If I am being honest, it is pretty dang easy to find just about any sewing machine with a needle threader, but having the auto thread cutter is a total game changer and much less common! I find it incredibly helpful whether sewing clothing or quilts or anything in between!

  2. Large Sewing Surface Area

As a quilter, having a large throat space is essential! The HUSQVARNA® VIKING® DESIGNER BRILLIANCE 80 machine has 10″ of usable sewing space surface area and you can get the extension table separately to really make your workable area incredible!

  3. Needle up/Needle Down functions

The needle up and needle down functions are amazing for garment sewing and for quilting. I personally find the most use out of it when I am chain piecing for a quilt – I put it in the needle down position so that every time I stop sewing the needle automatically staying down and the presser foot lifts ever so slightly to allow me to adjust the fabric or slide the next fabric piece in.

  4. Sensor System

The sensor system on this machine is an amazing feature that makes it automatically adjust for the thickness of your fabric without you needing to make any manual changes! It’s truly amazing and takes all the guesswork out of quilting!

  5. Embroidery Capabilities

Having a sewing machine that can also do embroidery is a total game changer! I totally love how easy it is to switch between the sewing setting to the embroidery setting, and I can now many so many personal and customized projects! Here are a few of the ones I have made for you to check out:

Thank you so much for this! I have an old (and quite inexpensive) singer and am looking for something more powerful. This is a perfect review and I will definitely check out the Vikings!
